Job Description:
At Midland States Bank, base salary is one component of our
Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors
such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity,
and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the
form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and
may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Benefits for
this role include comprehensive healthcare, well-being benefits,
paid family leave as well as generous paid time off. Total Rewards

Position Summary
The Retail Business Banker position is responsible for helping
their clients manage their business and personal finances to
achieve their goals and objectives. Retail Business Bankers will
use a defined sales process to uncover the business and personal
financial needs for each business owner and recommend appropriate
products and services. This role will utilize their advanced sales
and networking skills to expand their book of business by calling
on existing customers, prospective customers and attending
community events. Retail Business Bankers are also responsible for
completing referrals and partner calls with other business lines
that support their clients goals. The Retail Business Banker will
have an extensive understanding of Small Business and specialize in
developing and expanding the branches small business portfolio.
This position is an individual contributor role.
Primary Accountabilities
- Leverages in-depth knowledge of business and consumer products
and services to promote cross-sell opportunities.
- Demonstrates a proven track record with business-to-business
sales or small business banking.
- Possesses a thorough knowledge of small business financial
products and services.
- Maintains and expands customer base and continually deepens
relationships through excellent customer service and personalized
financial solutions.
- Provides end-to-end customer support, ensuring a seamless
customer experience by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and
identifying opportunities for deeper engagement.
- Actively participates in community groups and events to
generate networking opportunities and promote the bank's
services.
- Conducts needs-based assessments to understand customer needs,
allowing for the development of deeper customer relationships.
- Utilizes strong multitasking and computer skills in a demanding
environment.
- Confidently drives sales through service and knowledge allowing
them to achieve or exceed personal and team sales targets, ensuring
sales are tracked and monitored in the customer information
software.
- Participates in onsite visits to customers, promoting offerings
such as the Employee Perks at Work Program and Merchant
Services.
- Refers clients to appropriate banking partners through
effective profiling techniques acquired through internal training
programs.
- Makes sound, data-driven decisions to support sales and service
activities, promoting the growth of business relationships.
- Engages in outbound teleconsulting to strengthen client
relationships and expand service usage.
- Actively participates in bank-sponsored community activities,
enhancing the bank's visibility and outreach efforts.
- Serves as relief or backup Personal Banker at other locations
as needed.
- The role requires occasional travel for training and team
meetings, and willingness to travel periodically, to locations
within market as needed.
- May require work in a Midland office to ensure collaboration
and support of internal and external customers.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including,
but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications Education/Experience:
- High school diploma/GED. Associate degree preferred.
- 2-3 years of relevant work experience.
- Broad knowledge of bank systems, consumer loans and deposit
accounts.
- Proven sales experience.
- Experience with financial information, spreadsheets, and
financial skills.
- Experience working with small business clients.
- Experience meeting or exceeding goals.
- A working knowledge of small business products and
services.
- This position requires National Mortgage Licensing System
(NMLS) registration under the terms of the S.A.F.E. Act of
2008.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication
skills.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Ability to:
- Stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and transport coin and currency bags as
required (bags may weigh between 25lbs and 50lbs).Other Desired
